The Calling

The history of Gospel Evangelistic Church of Kenya (GECK) traces its roots to the life, calling, and ministry of Bishop Dr. Patrick Marai Mungai, the Founder and General Overseer. On 28th February 1990, a tent was pitched near Jericho Market for a “Nairobi for Jesus” Crusade, which lasted 44 days. During this powerful move of God, many people gave their lives to Christ, laying the foundation of what would become a thriving church movement.

Birth of Nairobi Calvary Temple

The church later acquired land in Buruburu Phase 1—then a dumping site—but through prayer, faith, and determination, the land was cleared and a place of worship was established. This marked the birth of Nairobi Calvary Temple, the mother church of GECK. In July 1991, Bishop Dr. Mungai extended his evangelistic outreach to Nairobi City Centre, launching Lunch Hour and Evening Services at Charter Hall from Monday to Friday. These meetings became a hub of revival, inspiring many preachers to rise and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By 1992, several ministers who were inspired through these meetings had joined the work and began sharing the Good News in various parts of the country.

Construction of Permanent Church

In June 2007, construction of a permanent church sanctuary at the Buruburu site began. In 2012, the partially completed sanctuary was opened for worship, providing a stable place for the growing congregation.

Dedication of Sanctuary

On 8th December 2024, the sanctuary was officially dedicated to God, standing as a testimony of His faithfulness. Today, Nairobi Calvary Temple is a house of prayer and worship for generations—a beacon of hope and transformation. Over the years, GECK has grown from a tent crusade to a vibrant ministry with over 300 branches across Kenya and beyond. Its impact continues to spread through evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, and missions.
